Specimen Technician
Specimen Technician (SPT I)
Location: Cleveland, OH
Duration: 2+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: First Shift | Sun–Sat | 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM EST
Job Description
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) is responsible for performing a broad range of support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fastpaced, productiondriven environment. The SPT I will handle various specimen processing tasks with accuracy, speed, and compliance, ensuring excellent service and quality for internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform essential specimen processing tasks, including Astation operations, presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and internal pickup/delivery of processed specimens.
- Accurately enter test order data (minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour) while maintaining high quality and zerodefect accuracy standards.
- Learn and identify various specimen types and understand test requirements, adjusting to daily updates in test ordering compliance and laboratory protocols.
- Work effectively in a biohazard environment while following strict safety, PPE, and infectioncontrol guidelines.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and compliant work area and communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
- Adapt to frequent changes in workflow, client demands, and departmental requirements, demonstrating flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude.
- Support departmental productivity and quality goals by meeting turnaround times and production expectations.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Highvolume production environment requiring speed, accuracy, and multitasking.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks.
- Required availability for weekends, holidays, overtime, and potential oncall hours based on staffing needs.
- Must adhere to organizational core values, safety regulations, and compliance policies.
Education & Qualifications
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:
- Background in laboratory settings or medical terminology.
- Previous hospital laboratory or production environment experience.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with laboratory specimen processing.
Additional Details
- Group interviews scheduled for Friday, 12 PM – 4 PM.
