Job Title: Specimen Technician
Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
Duration: 3 Months+ Contract with (temp-to-hire) (Possibilities of Extension)
 
Work Schedule: Wednesday – Sunday – 5 pm – 1:30 am

Pay Rate: $23/hr. on W2
 
Overview:

• The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
• This role requires strong data entry skills and the ability to perform tasks with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness.
• The position is critical to ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining quality standards.

 
Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Processing Tasks:

• Perform functions such as A-station, presort, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Maintain accuracy while handling various specimen types and understanding related test orders.

Data Entry & Productivity:

• Enter a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Work efficiently in a production-driven environment with strict productivity, quality, and completion-time standards.

Safety & Compliance:

• Work in a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety procedures.
• Stay current with compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.
• Keep work areas neat, clean, and organized.

Communication & Professionalism:

• Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a positive work environment.
• Show flexibility and adapt to frequent changes and varied customer demands.

 
Work Environment & Schedule:

• Majority of shifts occur overnight (night shift).
• Weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime may be required based on staffing needs.
• Position may require prolonged sitting or standing.

 
Qualifications:
Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing.
• Medical terminology familiarity is a plus.

Experience:

• No prior experience required.
• Preferred: previous laboratory, hospital laboratory, or production-environment experience.

 
Additional Information:

• Interviews are held on Tuesdays between 12 PM and 3 PM.
