Overview:
- The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
- This role requires strong data entry skills and the ability to perform tasks with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness.
- The position is critical to ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Processing Tasks:
- Perform functions such as A-station, presort, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.
- Maintain accuracy while handling various specimen types and understanding related test orders.
- Enter a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Work efficiently in a production-driven environment with strict productivity, quality, and completion-time standards.
- Work in a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety procedures.
- Stay current with compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.
- Keep work areas neat, clean, and organized.
- Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a positive work environment.
- Show flexibility and adapt to frequent changes and varied customer demands.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Majority of shifts occur overnight (night shift).
- Weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime may be required based on staffing needs.
- Position may require prolonged sitting or standing.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing.
- Medical terminology familiarity is a plus.
- No prior experience required.
- Preferred: previous laboratory, hospital laboratory, or production-environment experience.
Additional Information:
- Interviews are held on Tuesdays between 12 PM and 3 PM.
