Lab Assistant

Location: Irving, TX
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: 1:00 AM – 9:30 AM, Tuesday – Saturday

The Lab Assistant will perform routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy to support laboratory professionals and ensure smooth production processes.

• Sort, receive, and organize specimens within the department.
• Perform routine instrument maintenance and assist with equipment upkeep.
• Handle laboratory tasks such as centrifuging specimens, printing labels, recording temperature data, and managing specimen storage/retrieval.
• Prepare reagents, media, and specimens for testing, including aliquoting, checking for clots/fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.
• Conduct QA/QC duties, resolve pending lists, and locate missing samples.
• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
• Maintain departmental records and manage gas cylinder changes.
• Follow PPE requirements, safety regulations, and dispose of biohazardous materials properly.
• Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry and workflow management.
• Complete training and competency checklists as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent (Medical Assistant training helpful).
• Math and science coursework preferred.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, retain learned information, and work efficiently.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact respectfully with coworkers and customers.
