- First day must be in-person for orientation and laptop deployment
- Travel to Nashville is not reimbursable
Work Schedule:
- Full-time – 37.5 hours/week
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- No overtime permitted
- Annual contract, renewable based on funding availability

Position Summary:
- The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is seeking a Public Health Program Director 2 to lead and manage tobacco cessation initiatives statewide, with a focus on populations disproportionately impacted by tobacco use.
- This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape comprehensive statewide strategies to reduce tobacco and nicotine use, improve health equity, and drive sustainable public health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership:
- Direct and manage evidence-based smoking and nicotine cessation programs.
- Oversee program operations, ensuring alignment with state and national best practices.
- Advance initiatives that reduce the tobacco-related burden across Tennessee.
- Convene and collaborate with:
- Public health partners
- Community-based organizations
- Healthcare providers
- State and local agencies
- Build capacity for long-term, sustainable tobacco prevention and control efforts.
- Use epidemiologic and evaluation data to:
- Inform program strategy
- Monitor progress
- Ensure accountability and measurable impact
- Align program priorities with TDH’s strategic goals and national public health guidance.
- Maximize population health impact through evidence-based interventions.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience in public health program management, particularly in tobacco cessation, health equity, or chronic disease prevention
- A passion for reducing health disparities and improving community health outcomes
Additional Information:
- This is a hybrid position based in Nashville, TN
- Some in-office work is required, as determined by the supervisor
- Contract is renewable annually, pending continued funding
- First day in-person is required for onboarding
- Travel expenses to Nashville are not reimbursed
