Job Summary:
- The Lab Assistant will perform routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy to support laboratory professionals and ensure smooth production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort, receive, and organize specimens within the department.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and assist with equipment upkeep.
- Handle laboratory tasks such as centrifuging specimens, printing labels, recording temperature data, and managing specimen storage/retrieval.
- Prepare reagents, media, and specimens for testing, including aliquoting, checking for clots/fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.
- Conduct QA/QC duties, resolve pending lists, and locate missing samples.
- Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
- Maintain departmental records and manage gas cylinder changes.
- Follow PPE requirements, safety regulations, and dispose of biohazardous materials properly.
- Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs for data entry and workflow management.
- Complete training and competency checklists as required.
Education & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Medical Assistant training helpful).
- Math and science coursework preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, retain learned information, and work efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact respectfully with coworkers and customers.
