Job Title: Lab Assistant
Location: Tucker, GA 30084
Duration: 4 Months of contract (temp to hire)
Shift/Time Zone: Tue - Sat 12:00 am - 8:30 am
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant performs routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate manner to support laboratory professional staff and ensure efficient production. This role operates in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort and receive specimens within the department
- Centrifuge specimens and prepare samples for testing
- Print labels, aliquot specimens, and build worklists
- Check specimens for clots and fibrin
- Perform slide preparation and inoculation
- Record and maintain temperature charts and other data logs
- Store and retrieve specimens
- Prepare reagents and/or media
- Perform routine instrument maintenance
- Complete QA/QC duties as assigned
- Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples
- Decontaminate work areas and dispose of biohazardous materials
- Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests
- Maintain departmental files and records
- Change gas cylinders as needed
- Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations
- Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs
- Complete required training and competency assessments
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical assistant training preferred
- Coursework in math and science preferred
Experience:
- No prior experience required
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of English (spoken and written) required
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently
- Ability to retain and apply learned information
- Professional and respectful communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-production environment
Additional Requirements:
- Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license (bus, Uber, or rideshare not considered reliable transportation)
- Must be punctual and available to work scheduled shifts in full
- Excessive absenteeism or tardiness may result in termination
- Must be able to wear required PPE (lab coat, gloves, goggles, mask, protective wear) when handling specimens.
