Job Title: Specimen Technician (SPT I)
Location: Lewisville, TX 75067
Duration: 2+ Months (Possible Extension)
Shift: Sunday – Thursday | 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
Position Overview:
- The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) plays a key role in supporting daily operations within the Specimen Processing Department.
- This position requires strong data entry skills, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume production environment.
- The SPT I performs various specimen processing tasks to ensure timely and precise laboratory operations that directly impact customer satisfaction and overall quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a range of specimen processing duties including A-station activities, presort operations, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen pickup/delivery to the laboratory.
- Enter data accurately into laboratory systems at a minimum rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Identify and understand various specimen types and corresponding test requirements, ensuring proper handling and routing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change frequently.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced production environment focused on meeting established productivity and quality standards.
- Follow all biohazard safety protocols, including proper PPE usage and safe specimen handling procedures.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff at all levels, resolving issues or discrepancies as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing daily demands.
- Be available for additional work requirements such as weekends, holidays, on-call duties, or overtime based on staffing needs.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic computer proficiency required; familiarity with laboratory testing or specimen processing preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow procedures accurately.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a repetitive-task environment.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team setting.
Experience:
- No prior experience required; training provided.
- Preferred experience includes:
- Previous laboratory or hospital lab experience
- Background in medical terminology
- Experience working in a production-driven environment
