Job Summary
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides essential operational support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves accurate data entry, specimen handling, and laboratory support functions in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. The SPT I ensures quality, compliance, and timely processing to support laboratory testing and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities

Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and specimen transport to the laboratory

Accurately enter and verify specimen and test order data (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour)

Maintain compliance with laboratory regulations and test-ordering requirements, adapting to frequent changes

Handle specimens in a biohazard environment while following safety and infection control protocols

Meet productivity, quality, and departmental turnaround time standards

Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, supervisors, and other departments

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing priorities and customer demands

Work night shifts primarily, with availability for weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as needed

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience & Preferred Qualifications

No prior experience required
-
Previous laboratory, medical, or hospital experience preferred

Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Experience in a production or high-volume environment is a plus
