Job Description

  • Under minimal supervision, the HIM Manager will manage and provide leadership to the daily HIM Department operational workflow.
  • Responsible for ensuring optimal revenue cycle processing, data integrity compliance with all patient/clinical documentation that compromise the legal medical record (LMR), including:
  • Scanning/indexing of documentation, and transcription, timely/compliant chart completion workflow as specified in the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Responsible for the required data abstract and submission for birth certificate and cancer registry state reporting.
  • Ensures records are maintained in accordance with state and federal retention guidelines. Responsible for releasing PHI in a timely manner compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with other department leadership, medical staff. Utilizes LEAN methodology when implementing workflow improvements to achieve best practice outcomes.
  • Promotes a positive, team-work environment performing best practice employee/customer satisfaction utilizing Studer principles

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) or Bachelor Degree in Health Information Management (HIM), or a related healthcare management field.

Required Experience:
  • Typically five years of successful HIM supervision or management experience.
  • Two years of HIM system application(s) implementation and workflow design/re-engineering experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong overall HIM knowledge in all operational functions;
  • Demonstrating competence in HIM regulatory/accreditation requirements including mandatory state reporting, maintenance of required abstracts/indices i.e., cancer registry, birth certificate, diagnosis/procedural codes and their specified retention requirements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge base of applicable state/federal retention guidelines/MPI maintenance and insures compliance for all protected health information.
  • Demonstrates strong management/leadership competency at all times, Demonstrates professional etiquette in all communications including oral, written and body-language.
  • Demonstrates good organization, time-management, prioritization, decision-making and problem resolution skills in routine and crisis timeframes utilizing analytical and cognitive thinking strategies.
  • Provides excellent customer service skills, utilizing consistent AIDET practices at all times.
  • Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Flow-charting and all other applications deemed necessary.
  • Ability to be resourceful, initiate/facilitate staff team-building promoting a positive, unified team environment.
  • Displays consistent, positive quality customer-service experience that may include difficult customers requiring conflict resolution.
  • Ability to independently problem-solve, that may require prompt decision making in varied scenarios without supervision or approval

  • AHIMA; Associates Degree in HIT with RHIT AHIMA Certification OR Bachelor Degree in HIM with RHIA AHIMA Certification preferred.
