Job Summary:
This role acts as a safety liaison to Project Management, representing the owner at project sites to ensure safety goals are met. The Safety Specialist drives a culture where safety is paramount and uncompromised throughout project execution.

Job Summary:
This role acts as a safety liaison to Project Management, representing the owner at project sites to ensure safety goals are met. The Safety Specialist drives a culture where safety is paramount and uncompromised throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion safety as a non-negotiable priority for the project team.
- Ensure contractor compliance with OSHA, state/federal regulations, and Client Safety Terms and Conditions.
- Provide expert guidance on applicable safety regulations and advise management on project impact.
- Oversee orientation and ongoing safety training for contractors; audit safety documentation regularly.
- Maintain and distribute essential safety materials on site (e.g., Contractor Yellow Book, inspection forms, safety plans).
- Develop and manage emergency response plans involving internal project stakeholders.
- Address and follow up on safety concerns raised by Client or contractors.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections; immediately halt work if conditions pose an imminent danger.
- Communicate contractor incidents promptly to project staff.
- Participate in incident investigations, determining root cause and corrective actions.
- Manage reporting of injuries, illnesses, incidents, and property damage to Client management.
- Engage in project safety calls to review parameters and incidents.
- Review critical safety paperwork and attend pre-job briefs for quality assurance.
- Maintain a visible field presence (minimum 80% of workday), performing site visits and coaching personnel.
- Conduct site walks with Client and contractors to build relationships and identify hazards.
- Enforce Client zero tolerance safety policies.
- Support corporate safety audits and OSHA regulatory visits; document findings and coordinate responses.
- Recommend continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety awareness and reduce risks.
Mandatory Qualifications (must meet one):
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field + 5 years of large construction project safety experience.
- OSHA 500 certification + 5 years as lead safety professional.
- CHST certification + 4 years lead construction safety experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years experience as an owner’s safety representative.
- 1-3 years experience in utility or industrial settings.
Education:
Minimum high school diploma required.
