Manages ***s litigation & insurance portfolios. Reports to Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel;also works with General Counsel, Associate General Counsel & Assistant General Counsel. Independently oversees & coordinates litigation discovery process for medical malpractice, labor/employment, class action & general business cases. Maintain all aspects of cases from discovery & motion schedules to creating & updating electronic files. Serves as liaison between outside counsel & *** leaders. Supports procurement&renewal of all *** insurance programs including all excess layers of insurance. Oversees related programs such as processing certificates of insurance & administering drivers program. Reports To: Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients: N/A Blood Borne Pathogens: Minimal/No Potential
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct & policies & takes action to resolve questions or concerns & report suspected violations.2. Creates & maintains all files for claims & litigation cases-medical malpractice, labor & employment, class action & general corporate cases included.3. Manages & processes invoices for law firm & litigation consulting firm services including conducting initial reviews & routing invoices to responsible in-house attorneys for approval.4. Serves as liaison between *** Medical Center, *** Medical Associates, Barbara Sinatra Childrens Center & Annenberg Center for Health Sciences & law firm attorneys & paralegals.5. Collects & provides information that law firms representing the *** client request.6. Responds to all law firm requests for assistance with discovery including to completing draft interrogatory responses, collecting documents & electronic information responsive to requests to produce, & coordinating responses to requests to admit;signs necessary declarations.7. Coordinates, & at the direction of Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel, attends witness interviews & depositions; coordination includes scheduling conference rooms, confirming witness availability & serving as liaison between the *** witness & law firm representing the *** client. Meets & escorts attorneys & witnesses to meeting rooms, sets up & manages technology like Zoom & conference calling features for meetings.8. Coordinates, & at the direction of Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel, attends settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, bench trials & jury trials; coordination may include assisting the law firm representing the *** client to schedule dispute resolution meetings, serving as client representative, & reporting information back to Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel (from summary information to an evaluation of law firm attorney performance).9. Monitors case calendars & deadlines for all pending litigation & work with in-house as well as law firm attorneys to ensure compliance with those deadlines.10. Conducts legal research as assigned by an in-house attorney.11. Communicates with law firm attorneys, paralegals & support staff to agree upon & comply with schedules & deadlines.12. Manages subpoenas for records, witness depositions & attendance at trial.13. Reviews & outlines deposition transcripts as requested by Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel.14. Completes reviews of case facts from conducting & summarizing internal interviews of client employees & contractors to collecting, organizing & summarizing electronic information & paper documents as directed by Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel.15. Complies with confidentiality requirements & exercise discretion & independent judgment.16. Responds to credentialing requests from internal & external stakeholders,providing requested documents.17. Other duties as assigned.
This is an in office position.
Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications
Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization
Ability to work independently and as a team member
General understanding of California and Federal court rules, especially as related to discovery
High attention to detail and accuracy
Understanding of healthcare related vocabulary especially in the context of medical malpractice cases
Written and verbal communication skills
