Network Engineer
Job title: - Senior LTM/GTM engineers
Location:- Richmond, VA/ Boston, MA
Duration:- 18 Months
Top 5 must-have hard skills:
- Configure, manage, and optimize F5 Load Balancer (LTM) and Global Traffic Manager (GTM) environments.
- Design and implement load balancing strategies to ensure application availability and performance.
- Monitor and troubleshoot F5 devices to resolve issues promptly.
- Perform health checks, capacity planning, and performance tuning for F5 infrastructure.
- Utilize ServiceNow for incident management, change requests, and service catalog management.
- Create and update ServiceNow tickets for issues, changes, and improvements.
Key aspects of the role: F5 LTM/GTM for on and off prem work
Qualifications:
- Educational Background
- Bachelor’s Degree: In Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Certifications
- F5 Certified Technician: BIG-IP (101 or 201)
- F5 Certified Implementation Specialist: Local Traffic Manager (201 or 301)
- F5 Certified Implementation Specialist: Global Traffic Manager (201 or 301)
- F5 Certified Solutions Expert: Application Delivery Fundamentals (301 or 401)
- Experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with F5 products, specifically LTM and GTM.
- Configuration and management of F5 BIG-IP LTM and GTM modules.
- Experience with high-availability (HA) configurations.
- Scripting and automation experience
Technical Skills Networking:
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and other relevant protocols.
- Experience with load balancing algorithms and persistence methods.
Security:
- Knowledge of SSL/TLS, security protocols, and best practices.
- Experience with F5 security features like ASM (Application Security Manager) is a plus.
- Cloud Experience (nice to have):
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and integrating F5 with cloud services.
Monitoring and Logging:
- Experience with monitoring tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
- Familiarity with log management solutions like Splunk
Soft Skills Problem-Solving:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Teamwork:
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
Design and Implementation
Architecture Design:
- Design F5 LTM and GTM solutions that align with business requirements and best practices.
Configuration:
- Configure and manage F5 BIG-IP LTM and GTM modules.
- Implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
Automation:
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation workflows for F5 configurations.
- Integrate F5 solutions with CI/CD pipelines.
- Operations and Maintenance
Monitoring:
- Monitor F5 device performance and health using various monitoring tools.
- Set up alerts and notifications for critical issues.
Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to F5 LTM and GTM.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
Upgrades and Patching:
- Plan and execute F5 software upgrades and patches.
- Ensure minimal downtime during maintenance activities.
- Security and Compliance
Security Configurations:
- Implement and maintain security configurations on F5 devices.
- Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and standards.
- Documentation
Technical Documentation:
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for F5 configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Document incident responses and resolutions.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with application teams, network engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of F5 solutions.
