- Mon–Fri: 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Saturday: 6:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Job Description
The Phlebotomist II – Float, also known as a Patient Services Representative II (PSR II), serves as the primary representative for patients seeking routine or diagnostic laboratory services. This role is responsible for obtaining highquality blood specimens, preparing them for laboratory testing, and ensuring a professional, safe, and compassionate patient experience. The Phlebotomist II must demonstrate strong communication skills, maintain patient trust, and perform all procedures with accuracy, safety, and adherence to established protocols. As a Float, this position requires traveling between multiple service locations based on staffing needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and within established timelines under the direction of the Area Supervisor.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment at all assigned locations.
- Confidently perform clinical and forensic specimen collection, including venipuncture, pediatric draws, geriatric collections, and capillary sticks.
- Verify patient identity, demographics, and specimen labeling; ensure tubes are labeled in the patient’s presence and signatures are obtained postvenipuncture.
- Accurately prepare, process, and handle specimens for lab testing following strict guidelines.
- Complete required documentation, logs, records, and reporting with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Promote a positive and professional image to patients, clients, coworkers, and the public.
- Uphold confidentiality, patient safety, and organizational compliance at all times.
- Travel between assigned Patient Service Centers or inoffice phlebotomy sites, sometimes with minimal notice.
- Demonstrate leadership behaviors including problemsolving, adaptability, and commitment to process excellence.
Job Requirements
- Ability to deliver highquality, errorfree work in a fastpaced environment.
- Work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
- Strong phlebotomy skills including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and overtime based on staffing needs.
- Adherence to company policies including dress code, safety standards, and Everyday Excellence principles.
- Strong decisionmaking abilities and good judgment within established procedures.
- Reliable personal transportation (buses, Uber, rideshare not acceptable).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required for Float coverage.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and highvolume workloads.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and patientfocused care skills.
- Willingness to travel between sites; mileage reimbursement available between locations (not from home).
- Must be punctual, dependable, and able to complete full scheduled shifts. Excessive tardiness or absenteeism is grounds for termination.
- Training location may vary based on trainer availability.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant or Paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred (mandatory in CA, NV, and WA).
Work Experience
- 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
- Strongly preferred: customer service experience in a retail or service setting.
- Keyboarding and data entry experience required.
