JOB DESCRIPTION
Typically will supply the Hard Hat and Safety Glasses. The individual will need to bring the steel toes.
Position Summary:
The Ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge in electrical and/or HVAC systems and equipment. With supervision, the position will perform electrical and mechanical modifications and repairs on systems and equipment within the Cogeneration Systems facility. The position will assist senior specialists with installation and evaluation of more complicated systems and/or equipment.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
Cogeneration Systems is part of Energy Services. The primary purpose of Cogeneration Systems is the generation of steam to the various buildings on the University campus and to the Hospitals. Steam is critical to the operations of the University and Hospitals. It is used for heating, cooling, domestic hot water, sterilization of surgical instruments, distilled water production, food preparation and dish washing. Cogeneration Systems also generate electricity as a byproduct of steam generation. It can presently supply about 30 percent of the peak campus electrical load.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Associate's degree in electronics; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies & Experience:
Experience in repair and maintenance in a variety of electrical/electronic equipment or systems.
Position will work in extreme weather conditions including extreme heat/cold, direct sun, precipitation and/or wind.
Must be able to remain in a single or stationary location/position for extended periods of time.
Must have ability to Product/descend stairs in buildings without an elevator.
Will require employees to enter confined spaces or hazardous environments with the appropriate PPE in accordance with established procedures.
This position supports the Cogeneration Facility and Manning Drive Steam Plant which is a continuous 24/7-365 days operation to meet the demands and maintain reliability of the University campus and Hospitals. Events that jeopardize the facility's capacity to produce steam and electricity must be correct immediately. Therefore, this position may be required to report to work or remain at work during adverse weather events, university or public health emergency.
