Role Overview:
The Phlebotomist I is responsible for drawing blood samples from patients and preparing specimens for laboratory testing. The role involves direct patient interaction, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence while ensuring procedures are explained clearly and performed safely. The Phlebotomist will follow established procedures, maintain accurate records, and ensure confidentiality and accuracy in handling patient information.
Key Responsibilities:

Specimen Collection & Processing:
-
Draw quality blood samples from patients (including pediatric and geriatric patients).

Ensure specimens are prepared accurately for laboratory testing.

Perform both forensic and clinical specimen collection duties following established protocols.

Demonstrate expertise in phlebotomy, ensuring safe and accurate blood draws.

Patient Interaction & Communication:

Explain procedures to patients to ensure their understanding and comfort.

Maintain a professional and empathetic demeanor during patient interactions.

Build patient trust while ensuring a safe and confident environment for blood collection.

Documentation & Record-Keeping:

Maintain accurate and detailed records of specimen collections and processing.

Ensure confidentiality and proper documentation of patient information.

Maintain a clean and professional work environment.

Demonstrate organizational commitment and promote a positive image to patients and the public.

Follow safety and operational procedures to ensure a smooth workflow.

Qualifications & Skills:
-
Required Education:
-
High school diploma or equivalent.
-
Medical training such as medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
-
Phlebotomy certification (required in California, Nevada, and Washington).

Work Experience:
-
Minimum 6 months experience in phlebotomy required.
-
One+ years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
-
Experience in customer service in a retail or service environment is preferred.

Keyboard/data entry experience is required.

Skills & Abilities:

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
-
Ability to maintain quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.

Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.

Excellent phlebotomy skills for diverse patient groups (pediatric and geriatric).

Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail.
