Specimen Technician

Location: Marlborough, MA
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift Timings: Mon–Fri, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM and every other Saturday
Pay rate: $19.47/Hr - $26/Hr

The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves handling and processing biological specimens with precision and care, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

• Perform specimen-related tasks including A-station processing, presorting, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Ensure accurate and timely delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Maintain compliance with test ordering regulations and adapt to daily procedural changes.
• Enter data at a minimum rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour with high accuracy.
• Work in a biohazard environment while following strict safety protocols.
• Communicate effectively with internal staff and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet changing departmental needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime shifts.

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience:
  • No prior experience required; laboratory or specimen processing experience preferred.
  • Medical background or familiarity with medical terminology is a plus.
  • Experience in a production environment is advantageous.
