Pay Rate : $18/hr on W2
 
Job Description: Perform the daily activities as described below. Basic Purpose: Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production.
 
Job requirements:

  • Receive, sort, and log incoming laboratory specimens accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare specimens for testing by centrifuging, aliquoting into sample containers, checking for clots or fibrin, and building worklists.
  • Perform workstation preparation duties including inoculation, slide preparation, and labeling.
  • Prepare reagents and media as needed for department use, following established protocols.
  • Operate laboratory instruments and perform routine maintenance on select equipment.
  • Record and monitor data such as temperature charts and maintain detailed laboratory logs.
  • Assist with specimen storage, retrieval, and resolution of pending lists or missing samples.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date departmental files and records.
  • Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests and document results per protocol.
  • Replace and monitor gas cylinders as required for laboratory operations.
  • Clean and decontaminate work surfaces regularly to maintain a safe and sterile environment.
  • Dispose of all biohazardous waste in accordance with institutional and OSHA guidelines.
  • Follow all PPE protocols and laboratory safety regulations at all times.
  • Utilize the laboratory information system (LIS) and other computer software to manage specimen data and track workflow.
  • Participate in quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes as assigned.
  • Complete ongoing training modules and competency assessments to ensure proficiency in assigned tasks.
 
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
  • Background in mathematics and science coursework strongly encouraged.
 
Special Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
  • Must be able to retain information once learned.
  • Must interact with other coworkers, internal and external customers with courtesy and respect.
