Coordinator Inpatient Coding
Job Title: Coordinator Inpatient Coding
Location: Milwaukee, WI, 53226 (Remote)
Duration: 11/03/2025 – 05/07/2026
Shift: 1st Shift
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Flexible schedule. Requirement to be on camera for interviews (not negotiable). No weekends, no holidays, no on-call.
Required Skills & Experience
-
Two (2) to four (4) years of inpatient coding experience.
Preferred Skills & Experience
-
Inpatient coding experience in an academic medical facility.

Five (5)+ years of inpatient coding experience.
Education
-
Associate degree in HIM or equivalent – Required.
-
Appropriate education or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis of three (3) years of progressively responsible inpatient coding experience in an academic medical facility.
Licensure & Certifications
-
Certified RHIA/RHIT and/or CCS – Required within 6 months of hire.
Job Summary
-
Collaborate with management to ensure the highest coder quality through audits, oversight, and participation in internal and external quality reviews in alignment with HIM Coding Department Compliance Plan, Official Coding Guidelines, and internal inpatient coding guidelines.

Monitor coding workflows and work queues for timely and accurate chart completion, troubleshooting issues that cause delays.

Conduct audits and provide feedback to Quality department, medical staff, and coding staff on issues identified in internal/external coding reviews (including RAC, DRG denials, HAC, PSI, etc.).

Monitor MD clarification process to ensure compliant query writing and timely physician responses.

Oversee DRG and Clinical Denials, educating coding and CDE staff on trends and findings.

Successfully process Combines/Uncombines and collaborate with other departments to resolve related issues.

Assist management in developing, implementing, and monitoring inpatient coding guidelines, policies, and procedures while serving as a resource to coding staff.

Collaborate with the Clinical Documentation Excellence Department to improve provider documentation.

Perform required and requested quality reviews of inpatient coding.

Monitor coders’ and coordinators’ work queues, identify issues, and troubleshoot as needed.

Provide coverage for the coding area to meet coding goals while adhering to all coding guidelines.

Proficiently use EPIC, 3M products, and Microsoft Office software.

Perform other duties as assigned.
