Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Job Location: Cleveland, OH
Job Duration: 2-3 Months (possibility of extension)
Shift: Second shift, Wednesday - Sunday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm
Payrate: $17.20 - $18.00/ hr. on w2
Job Summary:
- The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides essential operational support within the Specimen Processing Department, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant handling of laboratory specimens.
- This role supports laboratory workflow through specimen receipt, processing, documentation, and distribution, while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen processing functions including A-station processing, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and delivery of processed specimens to appropriate laboratory sections.
- Accurately enter specimen and test order data with a minimum typing speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Identify, sort, and verify specimen types, test orders, and client requirements to ensure proper laboratory routing.
- Maintain specimen integrity by following established handling, labeling, storage, and transport protocols.
- Comply with laboratory regulations, test ordering requirements, and compliance guidelines, adapting to daily procedural changes.
- Work efficiently in a high-volume, production-driven environment, meeting productivity, quality, and departmental turnaround time standards.
- Practice biohazard safety procedures, including PPE use and infection control protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to support workflow continuity.
- Demonstrate flexibility by supporting night shift operations, weekends, holidays, on-call rotations, and overtime as needed.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced production laboratory environment.
- Regular exposure to biohazardous materials with required adherence to safety protocols.
- Emphasis on quality, accuracy, and turnaround time performance metrics.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Basic computer knowledge required.
- Medical or laboratory background preferred, including familiarity with medical terminology.
- Previous laboratory, hospital, or specimen processing experience preferred but not required.
- Experience in a production or high-volume environment is a plus.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong data entry and computer proficiency.
- High attention to detail with ability to process specimens accurately and efficiently.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to adapt to frequent workflow and regulatory changes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills that support a collaborative work environment.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods in a laboratory setting.
