Night Shift (Majority of work on night shift; may require weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime based on staffing needs)
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 11:00 pm – 7:30 am CST

All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The role is critical to quality and customer satisfaction, requiring flexibility due to frequent changes in processes or compliance regulations.

Job Summary:
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background and high attention to detail. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The role is critical to quality and customer satisfaction, requiring flexibility due to frequent changes in processes or compliance regulations.
Essential Functions / Duties:
- Perform general specimen processing duties including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Enter data accurately, performing up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients.
- Learn and adhere to compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.
- Work effectively in a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety habits.
- Sit or stand for extended periods as required.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
- Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive work environment.
- Exhibit flexibility and the ability to adapt to frequent changes and varying customer demands.
Education / Certifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge / Skills:
- Basic understanding of computers required.
- Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience:
- No experience required, but previous laboratory experience is preferred.
- Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
- Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
- Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
Additional Job Details:
- Production environment with emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times.
- Majority of work performed during night shift.
- Must demonstrate flexibility to adapt to change and meet customer demands.
