Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift

Duration: 3months - Possible extension
Shift:Night-Shift - 11pm-7:30am - M-F
Role Overview:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, requiring strong data entry skills. Responsibilities may include tasks such as A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All tasks must be performed with accuracy, confidence, and efficiency. The SPT I will also be required to learn and understand specimen types, test orders, and compliance regulations, which may change frequently. Flexibility is key in this position due to changing demands and the need to adapt to customer requests. The majority of the SPT I's work will be on the night shift, with availability required for weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as needed.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform data entry at a speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Support specimen processing tasks, including presort, pickup, delivery, centrifugation, imaging, and aliquoting.

Maintain high standards of productivity, quality, and accuracy in a production-driven environment.

Work safely in a biohazard environment, adhering to safety protocols and using protective equipment (lab coat, mask, gloves, etc.) when necessary.

Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.

Stay organized and keep the work area clean and safe.

Be flexible and adaptable to changing demands and processes.

Adhere to safety, compliance, and company policies and procedures.

Ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner to maintain customer satisfaction.
Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Basic understanding of computer systems, with a preference for knowledge of laboratory specimen processing and medical terminology.

No prior experience required, though previous experience in a laboratory or production environment is preferred.

Previous experience in a medical or hospital laboratory is a plus.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Must be able to work efficiently in a busy, high-volume environment.

Must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite (public transport, Uber, or rideshare not acceptable).

Must be able to work the assigned shifts on time and stay for the entire duration of the shift.

Must have a strong understanding of the English language, both spoken and written.
