Specimen Technician

Job Title: Specimen Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Tampa, FL
Duration: 5 months
Shift: M-F 12 AM - 8:30 AM

Job Summary:
The SPT I supports laboratory operations by performing specimen processing tasks, including data entry, sorting, imaging, centrifuging, aliquoting, and transporting samples. This is a fast-paced, high-volume role requiring accuracy, flexibility, and adherence to safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform data entry (6,000+ alphanumeric keystrokes/hour)

• Sort and prepare specimens for lab testing

• Transport specimens within the lab

• Operate imaging/microfilming and centrifuge equipment

• Follow strict safety and biohazard protocols

• Maintain a clean, organized workspace

• Communicate effectively with team members and departments

• Adapt to frequent procedural and regulatory updates

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Basic computer skills required

• Strong English communication skills (spoken and written)

• Ability to sit or stand for long periods

• Reliable transportation (public transit not acceptable)

• Available to work night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed

• Must be punctual and dependable

Preferred:

• Prior lab, hospital, or production environment experience

• Medical background or knowledge of medical terminology

Additional Info:
This is a high-volume, repetitive task environment. Protective lab gear (goggles, gloves, lab coat, mask) required when handling specimens. Excessive absenteeism or tardiness may lead to termination.
