Job Summary:
Serves as a department expert and is responsible for assuring standards are met for the sterilization processes, record keeping, and staff competencies on the assigned shift. Ensures that all appropriate regulatory and clinical standards of practice regarding the sterilization of equipment and supplies are adhered to by the staff on the shift being supervised. Assures staff follows established policies, procedures, and practices for the sterile processing department which includes decontamination, packaging, sterilization and return of reprocessed supplies and instruments to support quality patient care throughout CMH. Responsible for personnel management.
Essential Duties:
-Ensures compliance with procedures for safe, efficient decontamination and sterilization of reusable patient care equipment/supplies as set by policy and procedures and AAMI standards.
-Manages the processing and reassembly of medical supplies, equipment, and instrumentation with user departments; maintains adequate quantities of reprocessed supplies and equipment to meet patient care demands.
-Assures established quality control systems, including documentation, for safe, efficient decontamination and sterilization of reusable patient care supplies is followed.
-Oversees the processes in place for repairs, refurbishment and replacement of all patient care supplies and equipment and assures staff follow established processes.
-Initiates emergency plan for staffing, instruments, supplies, case carts, etc. in the event of unforeseen occurrences.
-Manages employee productivity, orientation, competency, morale and utilization including hiring, training, evaluating performance, monitoring and counseling staff and initiating progressive discipline as necessary.
-Identifies and implements cost reduction activities.
-Collaborate on plans for enhancement of services.
-Participates in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards.
-Assures maintenance of complete and accurate records for all of Sterile Processing and the Operating Room.
-Ensures that all regulatory and safety requirements are followed
-Other duties as assigned.
Skills

Required Skills & Experience:
-A minimum of two (2) years work experience in a hospital based Sterile Processing Department is required.
-Leadership experience in any healthcare work setting that involves instrument reprocessing or experience as a lead/charge tech, educator or trainer in a Sterile Processing Department is required.
-Knowledge of Infection Control and JCAHO Standards knowledge of asepsis; surgical techniques, or instrumentation, and Sterile Processing patient care equipment.
-Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with subordinates in providing effective leadership.
-Has specialized knowledge and technical expertise with sterilization and operating equipment.
-Competent computer skills.

-High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred Education:
-Associate s or Bachelor s degree in a related field.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
