Actual Job Title: Scientific Application Support Specialist
HYBRID - ON-SITE REQUIRED 2 DAYS/WEEK
The Scientific Application Support Specialist provides technical expertise, user support, and troubleshooting for applications used in scientific research and development. The applications are both biology and chemistry focused. This role bridges the gap between researchers and IT teams, ensuring software tools meet the needs of scientific workflows and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
• Technical Support:
o Provide first-line and advanced support for scientific applications, addressing user issues and inquiries.
o Troubleshoot application performance, functionality, and integration problems.
o Work with Discovery R&D IT to manage scientific applications tickets and requests.
• Application Management:
o Install, configure, and maintain software applications tailored to scientific research.
o Manage updates, patches, and compatibility checks for scientific tools and databases.
o Create and maintain technical documentation, FAQs, user training guides.
o Monitor application performance, ensuring reliability and efficiency in research workflows.
o Ensure compliance with IT security, licensing, and compliance requirements for scientific tools.
• Collaboration:
o Act as a liaison between scientists, developers, and IT teams to enhance application functionality.
o Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve complex technical issues.
o Work with business analysts for new application requests and enhanced capabilities for existing scientific applications.
o Stay updated on the latest developments in scientific applications and technologies.
o Recommend best practices and improvements for current scientific applications environment.
Qualifications:
• Education:
o Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific field, computer science, or a related discipline.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows, macOS) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash).
o Familiarity with scientific software packages, databases, and data analysis tools. (Ex. Pipeline Pilot, E-Lab Notebook, Spotfire, LIMS)
• Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
o Prior experience in technical support, application management, or research environments.
o Minimum five years supporting scientists within pharma\biotech industry.
o Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
o Knowledge of domain-specific scientific methods and protocols.
