Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Performing histological procedures, including specimen embedding, sectioning, and staining.
- Assistance in the gross room, accessioning, cassette, and slide labeling.
- Ability to work efficiently without much supervisory direction over hours as needed.
- Prepares tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis and further complex testing.
- Maintains and operates laboratory equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs.
- Investigates documents, communicates, and resolves needs, problems, or complaints.
- Performs area-specific support/clinical activities.
- Train other testing personnel
Qualifications and Experience:
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- 3 years’ experience in a Histopathology Laboratory preferred.
- License/Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) or eligible for either certification, preferred.
Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, such as word processing and information systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of regulatory compliance and HIPAA
- Visual requirements to distinguish colors for analysis, and auditory requirements to hear timers on equipment.
- Fine hand manipulation is required to operate equipment, manipulate and pipette specimens.
- Work is mainly laboratory-based with some time spent in the office writing up experiments, validation documents, and standard operating procedures.
