Radiographer (Radiologic Technologist)
Position Overview
Shift: 8-hour shifts
Hours: 2:00 PM 10:30 PM
Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend
General Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Radiologic Technologist performs radiologic procedures for the evaluation of pathological conditions as ordered by a physician. The technologist performs related duties according to departmental protocols and exercises independent judgment in selecting appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares patients for examinations.

Reviews clinical data on requisitions and performs appropriate examinations; obtains additional medical history as needed.

Prepares procedure rooms and replenishes supplies, linens, and equipment as necessary.

Analyzes patient anatomy, positions patients, sets up equipment, and performs radiologic procedures to obtain diagnostic-quality images.

Selects and administers intravenous contrast media when required; monitors patients for adverse reactions and provides immediate care if needed.

Demonstrates radiation protection principles, including patient shielding and ALARA techniques.

Prepares and sets up sterile equipment and supplies; follows infection control policies and ensures adequate inventory.

Provides patient care in accordance with departmental standards to ensure safety, privacy, comfort, confidentiality, and ethical/legal rights.

Completes all required worksheets, logs, patient records, and documentation.

Educates and trains new hires and students while maintaining personal workload and responsibilities as needed.

PACS: Resolves image exceptions and ensures accurate image and series delivery.

RIS: Completes study indexing, including study start, study end, and final study completion.

Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with the Radiologist prior to performing studies.

Demonstrates team member standards of excellence, including AIDET, open communication, timeliness, positive attitude, innovation, and respect for diversity.

Completes all required documentation in the medical record and radiology information systems to support clinical and billing functions.
Education & Experience Requirements
Required Education
-
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience
-
23 years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist required
-
Previous experience in a Level 1 Trauma facility required
Certifications & Licensure
-
ARRT registration in Radiography (or registry-eligible; must obtain within 6 months of hire)

Basic Life Support (BLS) / Healthcare Provider Certification
-
Ongoing continuing education as required

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Works in hospital settings using fixed and mobile imaging units (IPD/OR/ER)

Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and contagious patients

Occasional lifting and moving of equipment or patients exceeding 10 lbs

Primary assignment in the General Radiology Department

Responsible for Inpatients, Outpatients, Mobile Imaging, and occasional intraoperative cross-table portables

Rare reassignment to other departments possible
