Job Title: Specimen Technician - 2nd Shift
Job Location: Brooklyn, NY
Job Duration: 3+ months (possible extension)  
Shift: 
Monday to Friday - 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm Saturday - 8 am to 1 pm

Pay rate: $22.00/hr. on W2

Job Description 


The SPT I supports general functions within the Specimen Processing Department in a production-based laboratory environment. The role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a high-volume, regulated setting where accuracy and speed are critical to quality and customer satisfaction.




Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen processing tasks including:
    • Data entry (A-station operations)
    • Presorting specimens
    • Pickup and delivery of processed specimens within the laboratory
    • Imaging/microfilming
    • Centrifugation and aliquoting
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within required turnaround times
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory testing and specimen handling regulations (may change frequently)
  • Handle biohazard materials using proper safety procedures
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff at all levels
  • Adapt to changing priorities and customer demands



Work Environment & Schedule

  • Production-based laboratory environment focused on productivity and quality metrics
  • Exposure to biohazard materials
  • Majority of shifts are night shifts
  • Schedule may include weekends, holidays, on-call duty, and overtime
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods

Shift Hours:

  • Monday–Friday: 1:30 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM



Required Skills

  • Data entry speed: 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to learn specimen types and test requirements
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-changing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills



Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required



Experience

  • No prior experience required
  • Laboratory or medical background preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus
  • Hospital or production environment experience preferred
