Patient Care Technician
Job Title: Patient Care Technician - Med Surg/Tele Unit
Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM (3 x 12-hour shifts, every other weekend, holiday required, no on-call)
Role Overview:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists registered nurses in providing direct patient care, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients. This role involves performing essential clinical tasks, patient assistance, and supporting the overall healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:

Welcome patients and verify identification bracelets.

Prepare patients for assessment, physical exams, and procedures.

Perform blood draws (intravenous or capillary) for patients of all ages using aseptic techniques.

Conduct electrocardiograms (EKGs) as directed.

Ensure the availability, functionality, and cleanliness of necessary equipment.

Assist in patient transport within the facility.

Help with meal preparation and feeding as needed.

Maintain inventory and restock assigned areas.

Prepare patient rooms for admission.

Provide direct hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and bed-making.

Take and document vital signs, blood glucose tests, and other specimens as directed.

Monitor and record daily patient weights, intake, and output.

Ensure patient safety by promptly responding to call lights and reporting condition changes to the RN.

Adapt care based on patient needs (age, culture, language, impairments, etc.) and communicate effectively with patients and caregivers.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications & Licensure:

Required:

Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification, which includes Phlebotomy, EKG, and Nursing Assistant training (theoretical & clinical) OR proof of completion of such a program.

Skills & Experience:

Required: Minimum 1+ year of experience as a PCT in a hospital setting.

Preferred Skills: IV insertion, phlebotomy, and experience with EPIC electronic medical records.
