Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Cleveland, OH
Job Duration: 3 Months+ (possible extension)
Shift: Second shift: 2 pm – 10:30 pm
Pay Range: $17.20 - $18/hr. on W2
Duties:
- Perform general specimen processing functions including A-station activities, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming.
- Accurately receive, process, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing in accordance with established protocols.
- Perform pickup and delivery of processed specimens within the laboratory as required.
- Enter specimen and test order information into laboratory systems with a minimum speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Learn and correctly identify specimen types associated with client test orders.
- Understand and comply with laboratory regulations and test-ordering requirements, which may change daily.
- Maintain specimen integrity while meeting productivity, quality, and departmental turnaround time standards.
- Practice proper biohazard safety procedures and adhere to all safety and compliance policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
- Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and laboratory staff.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to changing priorities and customer demands.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Experience & Qualifications:
- No prior experience required
- Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience (preferred)
- Medical background with knowledge of clinical laboratory terminology (preferred)
- Prior hospital laboratory experience (preferred, not required)
- Previous experience in a production or high-volume work environment (preferred)
- Basic computer skills and data entry experience required
Work Environment:
- Production-based laboratory environment with strict productivity and quality standards.
- Exposure to biohazard materials; must follow all safety procedures.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Requires flexibility for night shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and overtime as staffing needs dictate.
