Job Title: Patient Care Technician
Location: New York
Shift: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Schedule: 5 days/week, 7.5 hours/day (37.5 hours/week)
Weekend Requirement: Some weekends required
Contract duration: 8 weeks
Hourly rate: $21/hour on W2 Negotiable
Role Overview:
The Patient Care Technician is responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis equipment, assisting with patient care during dialysis procedures, and supporting the clinical team under the supervision of a registered nurse. Candidates must have Operating Room (O.R.) experience and knowledge of medical terminology to be considered.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical/Technical/Service Duties:
- Operate, set up, test, clean, and disinfect dialysis machines and related equipment.
- Prime and rinse dialyzers for reuse while preventing cross-contamination.
- Initiate and terminate dialysis using fistulas, catheters, and grafts.
- Administer prescribed amounts of heparin and saline under physician orders.
- Monitor patient condition during dialysis and report to charge nurse.
- Handle emergency situations such as blood leaks or fluid imbalance.
- Assist patients with mobility safely, ensuring proper transport methods.
- Apply Universal Precautions and maintain infection control practices.
- Recognize and respond to patient needs based on age-specific competencies (Neonate to Geriatric).
- Participate in performance improvement and unit-based projects.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
- Follow compliance policies and contribute to team goals.
- Use time and supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Support the training of new staff members.
- Maintain required certifications and health assessments.
- Demonstrate proficiency in practice area and use of information systems.
- Interact professionally with patients, families, and staff.
- Report on patient status and equipment issues appropriately.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Follow directions and respond constructively to feedback.
Education:
- High School Diploma required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred (or equivalent work experience considered)
- Mandatory: Operating Room (O.R.) experience
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Prior experience in dialysis or similar healthcare setting preferred
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Effective oral and written communication
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Physical ability to assist in patient handling and equipment transport (with or without accommodations)
