Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift
Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Duration: 3 months, possibility of extension
Hours per Week: 40 Hours
Shift: Night Shift
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 1:00 AM – 9:30 AM
Job Overview:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) is responsible for providing general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to the handling and processing of specimens in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner. The SPT I will assist with duties including A-station, presorting, transporting processed specimens, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment, and a strong commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform tasks related to the processing and handling of specimens including presorting, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

Transport processed specimens to the laboratory.

Enter specimen-related data into computer systems with high accuracy (6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).

Understand and comply with specimen processing and test order regulations, which may change daily.

Ensure that all tasks are performed with precision, attention to detail, and in a timely manner.

Adhere to safety and compliance policies while working in a biohazard environment.

Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changes in workflow and respond to the varying demands from customers.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Communicate effectively with team members and other staff members.

Display strong interpersonal skills to contribute to a positive work atmosphere.
Qualifications:
-
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
-
Experience:
-
No previous experience required, but previous laboratory or production environment experience is a plus.
-
A background in medical terminology and/or clinical laboratory work is preferred.
-
Previous hospital laboratory experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

Skills:
-
Basic computer proficiency is required. Familiarity with laboratory testing and specimen processing is preferred.

Must have a strong understanding of the English language, both written and spoken.

Physical Requirements:
-
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
-
Work in a biohazard environment, requiring the use of protective gear such as lab coats, masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Reliable transportation to commute to and from work is required.
Additional Requirements:

Must be available for scheduled shifts and be punctual.

Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Must exhibit excellent organizational skills and a strong ability to adapt to changing tasks and demands.
Work Environment:

The position is within a high-volume, production-focused environment with a strong emphasis on meeting productivity and quality standards.

A significant portion of the work is repetitive, and candidates should be comfortable with repetitive tasks in a fast-paced setting.
