This role involves verifying billing forms, entering data into appropriate databases, investigating billing inquiries, and communicating with patients and other parties regarding open accounts and payment arrangements.

Role Overview
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing of medical services, focusing on pathology-related procedures. This role involves verifying billing forms, entering data into appropriate databases, investigating billing inquiries, and communicating with patients and other parties regarding open accounts and payment arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify the accuracy of billing forms and enter pertinent data into appropriate databases to ensure timely and optimal reimbursement.
- Investigate account billing inquiries, reviewing documentation for completeness and accuracy, including CPT and ICD-9 coding, physician data, insurance coverage, and other relevant information.
- Prepare appropriate documentation for account inquiry and resolution.
- Maintain a database of account inquiry information and generate reports and summaries as requested.
- Investigate causes for denials and utilize established protocols to effect satisfactory resolution.
- Communicate with patients and other appropriate parties regarding open accounts, incorrect information, installment payment arrangements, and other billing-related matters.
Required:
- Associate s Degree in finance or accounting required.
- Two to three (2 3) years of medical billing experience, including knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party reimbursement, as well as ICD-9 and CPT coding.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff and to withstand the pressure that may arise in relation to dealing with physicians, the public, and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and to deal with individuals under stress.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately record financial information.
- Bachelor s Degree in finance or accounting.
- Accounting and/or financial reporting experience.
- Prior supervision experience.
