Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift
Title:Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift
Location:Tampa, FL
Shift:10pm-6:30am - M-F
Duration: 3 months
Position Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) supports core laboratory operations through the accurate and timely handling of clinical specimens. This role involves data entry, specimen sorting, delivery, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting. The position requires high attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and flexibility to adapt to frequent changes in processes and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presort, delivery, imaging, and centrifugation.

Enter data at a rate of at least 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour with accuracy.

Maintain compliance with test order regulations and internal quality standards.

Adapt to daily process changes and respond to a variety of client demands.

Ensure work area is clean and organized while adhering to all safety protocols.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling specimens.

Communicate effectively with team members and leadership across departments.

Demonstrate reliability by arriving on time and being available for the full shift.
Requirements:
Education:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Skills & Qualifications:
-
Proficient in English (spoken and written) – required.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Basic computer literacy; ability to quickly learn internal systems.

Ability to sit or stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.

Comfortable working in a production-based, biohazard environment.

Medical terminology knowledge is a plus, but not required.
Preferred Experience:
-
Prior experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory environment.
-
Familiarity with specimen processing and/or lab testing workflows.
-
Background in high-volume production or medical settings preferred.
