Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Chicago IL 60611
Shift/Time Zone:1p-930p 2ND SHIFT CENTRAL
Duration: 3 Months
Payrate : $18/hr
Position Overview:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) is responsible for supporting various functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves performing essential tasks that ensure the timely and accurate processing of specimens. The SPT I position is key in supporting laboratory operations, requiring a high level of organization, data entry skills, and adaptability to changing environments.
Key Responsibilities:

Specimen Processing: Perform a variety of tasks including A-station, presorting, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

Data Entry: Accurately enter data, meeting a requirement of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Compliance Adherence: Understand and follow ever-evolving compliance regulations related to test ordering. Keep up with regulatory changes that may vary daily.

Quality and Timeliness: Ensure all functions are completed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner, meeting departmental quality standards and completion times.

Customer Satisfaction: Recognize the importance of the role in contributing to customer satisfaction by processing specimens efficiently and correctly.

Flexibility: Be adaptable to the many demands that arise due to customer needs and shifting departmental requirements.

Data Entry Skills: Proficiency in high-speed data entry (6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).

Organization & Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills to handle various specimen types and associated testing requirements.

Adaptability: Ability to adjust to daily changes in workflow, processes, and regulations.

Safety & Compliance Awareness: Must work in a biohazard environment, adhering to safety protocols and complying with safety policies.

Qualifications:
Education:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge:

Required: Basic understanding of computers.

Preferred: Knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing.
Experience:

Preferred: Prior laboratory or medical experience, including familiarity with medical terminology applicable to clinical laboratories.

Preferred: Experience in a hospital laboratory or a production environment is a plus, but not required.
