Job Title: Certified Ophthalmic Technician
Location:
New York, NY
Shift Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Pay Rate: $42.16/hour negotiable (**Per-diem rates are also applicable for qualified candidates)

Role Overview:
The Certified Ophthalmic Technician supports ophthalmologists by performing clinical duties related to eye care diagnostics and treatment. The role involves patient screening, diagnostic testing, surgical support, and assisting in maintaining clinical workflow within the Eye Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Testing & Patient Screening:
    • Conducts visual field tests (central and peripheral), ocular motility, color vision, pharmacological pupil tests, and intraocular pressure testing (tonometry, tonography, Tensilon tests).
    • Performs pupil assessment for size, equality, and reactivity prior to dilation.
  • Patient Flow & Coordination:
    • Directs patient flow within the Eye Center and collects medical/personal data for patient charts.
    • Coordinates additional testing and procedures as ordered by physicians (e.g., lab work, imaging, surgeries).
    • Provides patient education regarding procedures and treatment plans.
  • Instrument Maintenance:
    • Calibrates and maintains clinical equipment (e.g., slit lamps, keratometers, tonometers, lensometers).
    • Ensure consultation rooms and labs are clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Surgical Assistance:
    • Prepares and sterilizes instruments for ophthalmic procedures.
    • Assists during minor office surgeries, laser treatments, and in the operating room when needed.
  • General Duties:
    • Performs other assigned tasks to support smooth clinical operations.
Qualifications & Certifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Required)
Skills Required:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Proficiency in ophthalmic testing and equipment handling.
  • Ability to manage clinical flow and provide patient reassurance and instruction.
Schedule Notes:
Daily responsibilities will include dilation, visual acuity testing, tonometry, refraction, pupil assessments, OCT imaging, and visual field testing.
