Shift - 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
Pay - 133,000/year - 133,468 /Year
Note - Chemistry Lab Supervisor- Chemistry lab supervising experience is required. Licensed/qualified CLT + 4 years of relevant lab experience *** Shift is Monday- Friday (35 hours/week) Interview will be held in person
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervising testing personnel, monitoring and ensuring that acceptable performance specifications are maintained, including review of quality control, scheduled instrument and equipment maintenance and other quality assurance activities as assigned. Ensuring test system performance by initiating preventive and/or remedial actions when test procedures deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications and in the event of nonconformances, ensuring that test results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and the test is performing according to laboratory established performance specifications. Verifying that personnel are trained and deemed proficient prior to performing testing on patient specimens independently, ensuring that staff have competency assessments as needed and ensuring action is taken when personnel do not perform as expected on competency assessments.
Compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), communication, including bringing problems and non-conformities to the attention of laboratory management/leadership and problem-solving capabilities, allocation of assets for effective daily laboratory operations and personnel management. Follows and complies with standard precautions, patient confidentiality/privacy/HIPAA/PHI/safety/infection control policies, use appropriate PPE, decontaminate bench surfaces or equipment and does documentation as appropriate.
Review of applicable test results daily and or in his/her next duty period, Proficiency testing performance management/monitoring and preliminary review prior to director final review and approval, staff training/competency assessment, providing orientation to testing personnel, overseeing/performance and preliminary review of test methodology performance studies only (no approval), SOPs review excluding new and or subsequent changes to SOPs, supervisory/point of care testing review, maintenance and applicable quality control/calibration/maintenance review at the least monthly, maintaining a safe laboratory environment for employees and patients, training/competency assessment and other CLIA-required roles not performed by the laboratory director. Responsible for overall core laboratory operations/maintenance.
Following laboratory's pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintaining records of tests, maintaining records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Perform patient testing, adhering to the laboratory's quality assurance procedures, including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications, maintenance and preventive maintenance, following the laboratory's policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established performance specifications, identifying and documenting problems that may adversely affect test performance, and notifying the supervisor, assistant director(s) or director and documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Perform other assigned tasks required and does bench work on need basis.
Maintains standards of care, work on laboratory goals to prioritize patient safety/care and respond to inquiries courteously/accurately and timely. Promote safe, cooperative and professional health care environment for patient/public health safety, optimal patient care, best laboratory practices, rules/regulations and demonstrates standards of performance and behaviors. Coordinates department staffing and scheduling to ensure adequate shift and skill coverage and maintains laboratory/compliance records. Ensures adequate operating supplies, appropriate inventory management, specimen handling and management (all pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processing), recording/tracking of specimens, monitors checks/documentation of environmental conditions, physically inspect reagents, controls, calibrators and other supplies, checks lot number and expiration dates and does required documentation.
Ensures Shift to shift communication to manager(s)/supervisor(s) and all staff about pending tasks/ongoing compliance and tasks that needs to be accomplished timely to avoid safety and patient care issues for efficient laboratory operations. Assist in hiring, training, performance appraisals and ensures timely completion of tasks. Manage, plan, organize and evaluate functions including, but not limited to financial management, site operations, department/institution PI process, develop/implement, and evaluate approved processes to achieve service line strategic goals. Knowledgeable about contents of SOPs relevant to Product of services, keeps self-abreast with knowledge/developments in laboratory medicine and compliance with continuing education requirements. Agrees to comply with terms of Health Commerce Security and use policies as required.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:

Certification(S)/NYS Licenses:
Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.

Educational Level:
At a minimum, Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology program, Clinical Laboratory Technologist License issued by New York State Education Department and 4 years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist qualifying as regulatory/accreditation Supervisor. Training/experience commensurate with clinical laboratory and in designated discipline or area of service necessary for design, validation and delivery of clinically relevant and useful laboratory services. Certification in Medical laboratory scientist from American Society of Clinical Pathology is preferred but not necessarily required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Requirements:
In-depth knowledge of laboratory medicine, operations, workflow, regulations, standards, and biosafety protocols. Proficient in laboratory information systems and other relevant software/middleware applications. Effectively perform function of a supervisor, demonstrate professional behavior, coach/develop team and help/support staff.
Commitment to continuous learning/professional development and work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. A combination of technical, operational and strong leadership/management skills to effectively supervise and motivate staff. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory procedures. Organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Must have excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, regulatory/accreditation bodies and stakeholders and troubleshoot issues and ensure quality control. communicate issues to staff and management, promote a just culture and prioritize facility goals of patient care and ICARE model of organization.
