GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs radiologic procedures for the evaluation of pathological entities as ordered by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares patients for examinations.

Reviews clinical data on requisitions and performs appropriate examinations. Obtains additional information about patient medical history as necessary.

Prepares procedure rooms and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.

Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and performs radiologic procedures. Manually controls equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Utilizes patient immobilization as needed.

May select and administer intravenous contrast media. Monitors patients for possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care if a reaction occurs.

Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating principles of radiation protection, including shielding patients, selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, and using ALARA techniques.

May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for procedures. Follows department infection control practices and techniques. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored.

Follows department standards for performing patient care functions required for optimal patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, comfort, and legal/ethical rights.

Completes all necessary worksheets, logs, patient records, and documentation.

When needed, assumes responsibility for teaching and educating new hires and students while maintaining own responsibilities and duties.

PACS: Resolves all image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS, including viewing images and confirming image/series counts.

RIS: Completes all study indexing, including study begin, study end, and study completion in the Radiology Information System.

Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with the Radiologist as necessary before performing studies.

Demonstrates consistent team member standards of excellence, including AIDET, open communication, timely responses, positive attitude, fostering innovation, and respecting diversity.

Performs all documentation in the medical record and within the radiology information system to support clinical and billing functions.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
Must maintain required hours of continuing education.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Registered in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or registry eligible. If registry eligible, certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).

Works in the hospital with a fixed unit and/or in IPD/OR/ER with a mobile unit.
Potential exposure to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized.
Potential exposure to high-voltage equipment.
Potential exposure to contagious patients.
Occasionally lifts and/or moves equipment and/or patients in excess of 10 lbs.
