Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Menomonee Falls, WI
Duration: 3+ Months Contract (With possibility of extension)
Shift: 2nd shift (15:00–23:30) and (12:00 PM – 8:30 PM)
Schedule: 5 days per week, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Job Summary:
- Under general supervision, performs routine tasks relating to the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
- Operates and monitors cleaning/sterilization equipment.
- Maintains records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards.
- Collects, sorts, cleans, disinfects, and inspects instruments, supplies, and durable medical equipment.
- Inspects, assembles, wraps, and labels surgical instruments and procedural trays for sterilization and storage.
- Operates, maintains, tests, and documents use of sterilizing and disinfecting equipment.
- Identifies correct cleaning and sterilization methods for items being processed.
- Maintains accurate records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs and documents biological monitoring of all sterilizing equipment and follows protocol for failed biological tests.
- Ensures aseptic techniques are always used in the preparation and storage of sterile supplies.
- Maintains a sanitary, safe, and clean environment in the Sterile Processing Department.
- Delivers processed supplies and equipment to designated departments within the hospital.
- May assist in the Endoscopy reprocessing department.
- Participates in training and orientation of new employees.
- Reports faulty equipment, safety concerns, and deficiencies to Sterile Processing Leadership.
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Successful completion of Central Sterile coursework.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Preferred: Certification – Sterile Processing / Central Service Certification.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Ability to read and write to comprehend and follow equipment operating instructions and complete documentation.
- Basic arithmetic for counting instruments.
- Basic computer skills.
- Problem-solving and good communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- One year of related healthcare experience.
