Job Title: Specimen Technician I

Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Potential for Extension)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM (CST)




Job Summary:

The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) plays a vital role in the Specimen Processing Department, providing general support functions to ensure accurate and timely specimen handling. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong data entry background and a keen eye for detail. The role involves working in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment with a focus on quality and compliance.




Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform tasks such as A-station operations, presorting, specimen pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
  • Ensure all functions are completed with accuracy, confidence, and timeliness.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment in compliance with safety and biohazard protocols.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and adaptability to changing test orders and compliance regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other departments.
  • Meet productivity standards, including entering a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
  • Exhibit flexibility to accommodate staffing needs including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime shifts.



Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Basic computer proficiency (Required)
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing and specimen processing (Preferred)
  • Medical terminology knowledge (Preferred)

Experience:

  • No prior experience required
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or hospital setting (Preferred)
  • Experience in a production environment (Preferred)

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive team environment.
