Job Summary

The Patient Services Representative (PSR) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, creating a professional, welcoming, and confidential environment. The PSR performs high-quality blood specimen collection and processing while explaining procedures clearly and ensuring patient comfort, accuracy, and safety. This role requires strong phlebotomy skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced healthcare setting.




Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and forensic/clinical specimen collection following established practices and procedures.

  • Prepare, label, and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing.

  • Verify patient demographic information, obtain patient signatures post-venipuncture, and confirm specimen labeling in the patient’s presence.

  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA standards.

  • Create an atmosphere of trust and confidence by clearly explaining procedures and demonstrating compassionate patient care.

  • Perform daily duties accurately and on time under the direction of the area supervisor.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.

  • Demonstrate leadership behaviors, organizational commitment, and process excellence.

  • Promote a positive image of the organization to patients, clients, coworkers, and the public.

  • Support staffing needs by working in doctor’s offices, patient service centers, or other assigned locations.




Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–3 years of phlebotomy experience required.

  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric patients.

  • Ability to perform accurate, error-free work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.

  • Capable of managing multiple priorities efficiently.

  • Strong customer service skills with clear, open, and professional communication.

  • Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to embrace change.

  • Knowledge of healthcare operations and business processes.




Schedule & Availability

  • Flexible availability required, including weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, overtime, and coverage at multiple locations with minimal notice.

  • Must be punctual, reliable, and able to remain for the entire scheduled shift.

  • Excessive absenteeism or tardiness is not tolerated.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality and data accuracy at all times.




Transportation Requirements

  • Reliable personal transportation required.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record if applicable.

  • Public transportation, rideshare, or Uber are not considered reliable transportation.
