Location: Topeka, Kansas, 66612
Duration: 12 months W2 contract with a strong possibility of extension based on performance and business needs
Pay Range: $85 to $100.65/hour (W2)


Job Description
We are seeking a self-motivated Application Developer who can work independently and handle complex business and technical challenges. This role will provide technical guidance and use expertise to define the Product, design, development, and testing of application software solutions. The ideal candidate will understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
The Application Developer must be a team player with excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of collaborating with local and remote teams to deliver timely, high-quality solutions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical direction for development, integration, and testing of complex software applications, including requirements analysis and functional reviews.
  • Translate client business requirements into new application features and define test plans to ensure system reliability.
  • Collaborate with development teams and IT staff to define system, interface, and architecture standards; conduct technical and non-technical assessments.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies to enhance solution design within established architectural guidelines.
  • Coordinate application development activities to ensure alignment with IT systems and environments.
  • Consider business goals, corporate IT standards, department strategies, service level agreements (SLAs), and budget impacts in all work.
  • Manage defect resolution processes to address system issues and improve performance.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to maintain corporate data security, including NERC and SOX compliance.
  • Provide 24x7 system support as needed and work outside traditional business hours when required.


Mandatory Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field with 6 years of application programming experience
    OR
  • Master s degree in the same fields with 5 years of application programming experience
    OR
  • 9 years of application programming experience without degree


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and budget-conscious completion.
  • Leadership experience managing large project teams and fostering teamwork.
  • Excellent communication skills at all organizational levels with sound judgment and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex system/application problems, document findings, and propose solutions.
  • Expertise in application and data security risk management, root cause analysis, issue escalation, and documentation.
  • Contribute to team and departmental strategy with a clear understanding of corporate goals.
  • Provide leadership for business continuity planning and application recovery processes.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with leadership, technical teams, business support, and end users.
  • Experience with multiple programming languages and system environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of relational database experience and 3 years of application/system integration experience.
  • Proven application developer with expert knowledge in software development best practices, security, and deployment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Oracle databases, PL/SQL, SQL, and Java.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, XML, JSON, AJAX, jQuery, LINQ.
  • Advanced knowledge of source control tools and best practices.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools such as Splunk, Google Analytics, Power BI.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and ITIL tools such as Jira and ServiceNow.
  • Basic understanding of LAN and WAN features and functionality.
  • Experience in the utility sector and knowledge of utility services is a plus.
