Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 3 - 4 Months
Shift: Tue - Sat, 7:00 PM – 3:30 AM
Job Summary:
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills and the ability to perform specimen processing tasks such as A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. The SPT I must work accurately, confidently, and efficiently, demonstrating strong organization and adaptability to frequent changes in test orders and compliance regulations. This position primarily operates on the night shift, with flexibility for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime based on staffing needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform specimen processing functions including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen delivery to the lab.

Maintain accuracy and timeliness in all assigned tasks.

Understand specimen types and compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.

Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.

Enter data efficiently, with the ability to perform 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Maintain a neat and clean work area.

Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a production environment focused on quality and productivity standards.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:

No previous experience required; laboratory or medical background preferred.

Knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing is a plus.

Experience in a production environment or hospital laboratory is preferred but not required.
