Job Summary:
- The Underwriting Contractor will support Small Group underwriting operations by preparing, rating, and issuing proposal quotes in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- The role involves applying standard underwriting guidelines to evaluate risk and generate quotes efficiently and accurately.
- Apply underwriting principles and procedures to assess and evaluate risk
- Retrieve, analyze, and interpret data using underwriting systems
- Prepare and rate proposals within established authority and service-level timelines
- Make sound underwriting decisions per defined authority limits
- Collaborate professionally with internal teams including Sales, Marketing, and Management
- Organize and escalate data to senior underwriters when required
- Stay updated on changes to corporate systems, underwriting applications, rating tools, and databases
- Associate’s degree or equivalent (minimum two years' experience) in:
- Group health insurance
- Underwriting support
- Systems and programming
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook
- Strong mathematical ability (basic operations and estimating)
- Strong analytical skills to work with and interpret data from multiple sources
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Demonstrated ability to:
- Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Multitask in a deadline-driven environment
- Adapt to changing work expectations and processes
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable with web-based and standard workflow systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of healthcare products, eligibility requirements, and underwriting practices
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations impacting underwriting
