Basic summary:
- Perform routine daily and preventative maintenance and assist in construction and refurbishment of physical plant
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks to assist in the daily repair, preventative maintenance and construction of physical plant and expansion projects, including basic carpentry, masonry, electrical, heating/air-conditioning, plumbing, painting, mechanical and floor/wall coating installation.
- Perform scheduled inspections/repairs on all facilities systems.
- Perform supply, delivery, distribution, and acquisition tasks as directed.
- May perform waste vacuum maintenance.
- Participate in snow removal and ice remediation activities such as shoveling and spreading de-icing agents on walkways and parking lots, where site weather conditions necessitate.
- Assist in moving office contents within site, including furniture, files, etc. as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance repairs and services.
- Respond to emergencies as needed.
- Provide 24-hour on-call maintenance coverage, as scheduled in rotation.
- Take proper safety precautions and utilize appropriate safety gear/equipment in the performance of all duties.
- May provide guidance to less experienced/skilled utility workers.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.)
- One to two years’ experience in general building maintenance with mechanical and construction background.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure: None.
- Other: Must be able to understand and follow verbal directions.
Physical demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
- The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and confined spaces, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
