Location: New York, NY
Contract Type: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40 | Hours per Day: 8
Hourly pay rate: $20/hr. on W2 (NEGOTIABLE)
Role Overview:
The Comparative Medicine Trainee supports the care and maintenance of laboratory animals and facility sanitation in compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. This role includes animal husbandry, equipment operation and sanitation, facility upkeep, and inventory stocking. The trainee will also assist in environmental and health monitoring, with detailed documentation required for all activities.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Cage Maintenance:
- Provide animals with clean cages, fresh water, and food.
- Identify and report faulty caging equipment.
- Sanitize cages and remove waste materials (e.g., bedding, trash).
- Operate and clean equipment such as autoclaves, rack washers, and bottle fillers.
- Perform minor adjustments and ensure functionality of facility equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of work environment.
- Report facility damage to supervisor.
- Sanitize all areas including cage washrooms and corridors.
- Record and report on environmental conditions regularly.
- Observe and report animal health concerns to supervisors or veterinary staff.
- Adhere to protocols for handling infectious waste from BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments.
- Follow detailed written instructions for routine tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of sanitation, autoclaving, and equipment checks.
- Contribute ideas for improvements in procedures and problem-solving.
- Engage in training programs related to animal care, safety, and facility protocols.
- Share newly acquired knowledge and skills with peers.

- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Required/Preferred: None
- Required: Less than 1 year of animal care experience
