Job Description:
- Interventional Radiology Technologist works closely with the interventional radiologist to perform vascular imaging and interventional radiology procedures.
- Responsibilities include scrubbing-in for the surgical portion of the procedure, circulating within the procedure room to organize and perform the non-sterile portions of the procedure, and operating the radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment to produce the images of the procedure.
- The Interventional Radiology Technologist also maintains skills in radiography and/or other imaging specialties to provide cross-coverage and supplemental staffing as required.
- Assesses patient relative to requested procedure by collecting pertinent data about the patient and the procedure. Analyzes collected data and uses professional judgement to select the most appropriate and cost-effective method for completing the requested procedure.
- Educates the patient, family, and other health care providers as appropriate regarding the requested procedure. Prepares patient both physically and emotionally prior to examination, explaining procedures to allay patient fears. Documents of information about patient care and radiologic services provided.
- Provides direct assistance to the interventional radiologist during angiographic and interventional radiology procedures.
- Provides inventory control for vascular and interventional specific supplies such as catheters, guidewires, stents, procedure sets, etc.
- Produces medical images to meet standards established in department protocols. Uses independent judgment and radiographic skills to position patients to obtain quality exams.
- Alters positioning of patient and/or equipment as required by patient condition to obtain required images. Produces hard-copy images and/or digitally archived images for use in patient care. Ensures images are identified with appropriate patient and examination identification information.
- Verifies that area of interest has been imaged according to standard department protocols. Differentiates between artifacts and normal pathological processes.
- Determines need for repeat or additional images, and the technical factor or patient positioning adjustments required to correct image/examination deficiencies.
Required Qualifications:
- South Carolina Radiation Quality Standard Association (SCRQSA) Radiographer Certification
- ARRT License, BLS Certification
- 2 years of Relevant Experience
