Job Description:
Overview:
The Laboratory Technician performs various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate manner to assist the laboratory professional staff and facilitate the production process. The role involves supporting laboratory functions such as specimen handling, quality control, and ensuring smooth operation of laboratory tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sort and receive specimens in the department.

• Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.

• Centrifuge specimens, print extra labels, record data (temperature charts), and manage specimen storage and retrieval.

• Prepare reagents or media in the department.

• Prepare specimens for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens, checking for clots or fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.

• Perform quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) duties as assigned.

• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.

• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.

• Maintain department records and files.

• Change gas cylinders as needed.

• Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safety regulations.

• Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs.

• Dispose of biohazardous materials properly.

• Complete training and competency checklists as required.

• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Medical assistant training helpful.

• Math and science courses preferred.

• Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks efficiently.

• Must be able to retain information and perform tasks with accuracy.

• Ability to interact with coworkers and customers professionally, with courtesy and respect.

• Must follow safety protocols and adhere to PPE requirements while working in the lab.

• Must be reliable with transportation to the worksite (bus, Uber, or rideshare services are not considered reliable transportation).

• Must be available to work the scheduled shift and remain punctual. Excessive absenteeism or tardiness will result in termination.

Work Experience:

• No prior experience required.

Special Requirements:

• The position involves repetitive tasks and a busy, heavy production environment.

• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus, but not required.

• Must have an excellent understanding of both written and spoken English.

• Will be required to wear a lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, and other protective gear when handling samples.

Additional Job Details:

• Candidate must have reliable transportation to get to/from the worksite.

• Must be available to work whenever scheduled and stay for the entire shift.

• This is a fast-paced and repetitive role that requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
