Location: Manitowoc, WI 54220
Duration: 11/10/2025 – 02/12/2026
Shift: 1st Shift
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (40 hours per week)
Schedule Notes: No weekends. No on-call.
Required Skills & Experience
-
One year of experience in healthcare/revenue cycle functions (or other business office), case management, or social work is required.

Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs is preferred.

Experience using Epic in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Experience in social work or case management is preferred.
Education
-
High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Bachelor’s degree in social work, case management, healthcare administration, business administration, or other related field is preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
-
State of Wisconsin and Federal Certified Application Counselor Designation is required or must obtain within 12 months after hire.
Job Summary
-
Assess patient financial needs, assist patients, and collect deposits according to the Client Billing and Collection Policy in a professional and courteous manner.

Screen patients and assist with applications for applicable governmental programs, the health insurance exchange, and/or Client’s financial assistance program.

Emphasize customer service and positive interpersonal relations while working closely with Admitting/Registration, Preauthorization, Care Management, and Patient Financial Services.

Initiate timely account resolution for self-pay or financially challenged patients while ensuring elective care proceeds as scheduled.

Monitor Financial Counselor work queues to confirm timely completion of initial financial activities and secure payment sources for discharged patients.

Counsel patients through the application and eligibility process for Medicaid, Victim of Crime, Insurance Exchange, and other financial resources.

Assist patients with Financial Assistance applications according to Client and affiliated policies.

Estimate and collect patient deposits based on ability to pay and medical urgency.

Communicate with Social Services, Case Management, Admitting/Registration, and physicians to resolve patient financial issues.

Enforce compliance processes by confirming completion of documents, insurance verification, and precertifications.

Cross-train and provide backup coverage for other Financial Counselor positions as needed, including PM shifts, weekends, or holidays.

Assist patients during open enrollment to apply for Qualified Health Plans and/or Insurance Affordability Programs.

Adhere to document storage, destruction, and compliance policies.

Stay current on state/federal regulations and Client policy changes related to Certified Application Counselor responsibilities.
