Job Title: PreAnalytical Assistant I – 3rd Shift
Location: Tampa, FL
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Tuesday–Saturday | 1:00 AM – 9:30 AM
Job Description
The PreAnalytical Assistant I provides essential support within the Technical Operations Department by handling specimen processing tasks that ensure accurate and timely laboratory testing. This role includes performing manual preanalytical functions, maintaining compliance standards, and supporting workflow across Tech Ops and Specimen Processing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate accuracy, adaptability, and strong attention to detail while working in a highvolume production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual preanalytical tasks including sorting, racking, specimen pickup/delivery, storage, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Identify and resolve issues related to missing information or improper specimen types.
- Maintain accurate documentation and meet quality/production standards within required timelines.
- Research and verify test order information using internal systems and reference tools.
- Support department workflow during coworker absences and adapt to staffing needs on weekends, holidays, oncall shifts, and overtime.
- Learn additional Tech Ops and Specimen Processing functions to support advancement to higher levels.
- Follow safety, compliance, and workprocess policies while working in a biohazard environment.
- Keep work areas clean and organized per 5S workplace standards.
- Demonstrate strong communication, judgment, and professionalism in handling daily tasks.
Position Requirements
- Strong English communication skills (spoken & written).
- Minimal data entry ability with good organizational skills.
- Understanding of specimen types, handling procedures, and clinical requirements (training provided).
- Ability to work accurately under pressure in a fastpaced, highproduction environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and sit, stand, or walk for extended periods; able to maneuver carts/racks.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing processes, workload, and scheduling needs.
- Must comply with safety protocols including PPE (lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a teambased environment.
Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED — Required
- Medical background or knowledge of medical terminology — Preferred
- Experience in a productionbased environment — Preferred
- Familiarity with mainframe computer systems — Preferred
Additional Requirements
- Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license
(rideshare/bus is not acceptable). - Must be punctual, reliable, and able to work full scheduled shift.
- Excessive absenteeism or tardiness will result in termination.
- Must be able to thrive in a busy, repetitive, and highvolume environment.
