Specimen Technician

Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Tampa, FL
Duration: 3 months
Shift: 9 pm - 5:30 am

Overview:
The SPT I provides essential support in the Specimen Processing Department, handling tasks such as data entry, sample sorting, labeling, centrifugation, and delivery to the lab. This is a fast-paced, high-volume environment requiring accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform high-volume data entry (6,000+ keystrokes/hour)

• Handle and process biological specimens safely and efficiently

• Follow compliance and test-ordering protocols (subject to change)

• Maintain a clean and organized work area

• Communicate effectively with team members

• Adapt quickly to changes and daily workflow demands

Work Environment:

• Biohazard lab setting; PPE required (lab coat, gloves, goggles, etc.)

• Repetitive tasks in a production-focused environment

• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods

• Majority of shifts are overnight; must be available for weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed

Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Strong English communication skills (spoken and written)

• Reliable transportation (public transit/ride shares not accepted)

• Punctuality and full-shift availability are mandatory

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous lab or hospital experience

• Medical terminology knowledge

• Familiarity with lab testing or specimen processing
